“In ancient times, an extensive and sophisticated subway system was constructed to connect Dverg bunker cities conjoined to Phoibos. While much of this subterranean network was destroyed in the near genocidal wars of the Underdeep, or hence has succumbed to the passage of time, certain segments remain operational. These surviving sections are now supplemented by overland routes, though these are frequently controlled by opportunistic toll keepers, whose monopolistic practices add layers of economic strain to intercity travel.

Vast, and self-contained, urban centers designed for prolonged periods of isolation, the Dverg bunker cities derive their self-sufficiency and endurance from lostech plasma reactors, relics of an advanced technological era that provide immense and renewable energy reserves. This allows these cities to thrive in isolation for extended durations, minimizing the need for external interaction. However, when direct relations become necessary, the Rex peoples rely on Overgoer caravans to traverse the fragmented transportation network. These caravans serve as vital links for fostering intercity communication, commerce, and diplomacy.

Key motivations for intercity travel include the formation of political alliances through marriage & adoption, which play a crucial role in maintaining the sociopolitical cohesion of the region. Additionally, caravans facilitate the transportation of skilled technicians and rare resources needed for the repair and maintenance of irreplaceable lostech technologies, upon which the functionality of these bunker cities depends.

Despite the nominal protection owed to the Rex bunker cities by the Royal family, the challenges of logistics and geography often make the fulfillment of this duty a complex and arduous task. The vast distances, treacherous overland routes, and fragmented infrastructure necessitate a delicate balance of resource allocation, political maneuvering, and strategic prioritization to uphold the obligations of royal stewardship.”
