About Class-Mastery
Mastery determines what units are good at. New or improved mastery can increase attacks, unlock new equipables, grant special abilities, and improve explore techniques.
Mastery Level. Mastery has three levels: Novice (N), Advanced (A), and Master (M). In campaigns, heroes and squads have different mastery caps, the total number and level of mastery they can gain.
Class vs Office. Organizations on Phoibos recruit people partly on skill-sets. To join the Norn, a candidate needs the jutsu and arms masteries. Other qualifications may include: a character’s values, temperament, ideology, and faction origin. In this way, a ‘Merc’ class unit might join up and become a full fledged ‘Norn’. Offices & titles, like Norn, aren’t their own masteries, but can unlock unique org equipment, allies, or campaign rosters.
Starting vs Secondary. Some masteries have utility in tactical battles, others elsewhere. The recommended ‘starting classes’ just are masteries with some type of bonus in tactical scale battles. Secondary masteries are masteries that just enhance an existing mastery (like channeling), or expand abilities purely outside of tactical scale battles (like merchant.)
Alpha Prototypes. The class-mastery cards are alpha prototypes, containing concept art and rules subject to iteration and improvements.
