Coming November. Join Our Alpha and Shape the Future of Tactical RPGs

We’re thrilled to announce the upcoming first look release of Battle Role Blitz, a replayable tactical campaign for Radiant Tactics that’s been designed with the same philosophy that made Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion such a beloved entry point—accessible, focused, and deeply tactical.

What Is Battle Role Blitz?

Battle Role Blitz drops you into the boots of a mercenary squad hired for a seemingly straightforward job: retrieve forbidden technology from Alder’s Restricted Zone. What starts as a simple extraction evolves into something far more complex as you navigate three distinct zones—militarized perimeters, monster-infested wilderness, and pre-Cataclysm facility ruins that still remember how to kill.

This is a campaign about mastering battle roles—learning how Assault, Artillery, Defender, Sniper, and six other tactical archetypes synergize and counter each other. Each mission challenges you to analyze enemy compositions, exploit environmental advantages, and adapt your squad to overcome increasingly sophisticated opposition.

Strategic Depth That Rewards Mastery

The campaign features 15 tactical maps with multiple routes through each zone, creating a dynamic difficulty curve you control through your choices. Green paths offer tactical puzzles; red paths demand mastery. Lost a battle? Your enemies remain wounded, but your units gain exhaustion—creating a risk-reward calculation around when to push forward versus when to regroup.

Environmental interaction drives tactics. Moving water scatters units toward waterfalls. Ice amplifies knockback effects. Mud immobilizes the unwary. Height advantages stack with flanking bonuses. Every hex matters, and terrain mastery separates efficient victories from brutal slogs.

The equipment progression system ties directly to battlefield performance. Loot tokens dropped by defeated enemies can be spent between battles on role-specific upgrades—but unused tokens are lost when changing zones. Do you upgrade your Juggernaut’s armor now, or save to recruit that disabled enemy Sniper? These micro-decisions compound across the campaign.

Where Science Crashes Into the Wyrd

The world of Radiant Tactics emerged from a Cataclysm that shattered the boundaries between the material and the metaphysical. In Alder’s Restricted Zone, you’ll face daemon riders mounted on corrupted phoenixes, encounter flame elementals whose nature defies classification (living fire? nano-encoded programs? servants of elemental lords?), and breach facilities where pre-Cataclysm AI defense systems operate alongside magical wards.

Your ten starting mercenaries embody this collision of worldviews:

  • Nenias Typhon, a temple guard of Nox (Death personified), hunts undead abominations while communing with spirits to recover lost history.

  • Ennard of House Argus, a necrotic mage adopted into a cyber-necromancy research dynasty, views magic as exploitable physics.

  • Lampo Corinth, a humble orchard worker who channels divine power despite his own self-doubt, trusts in gods his companions dismiss as superstition.

These aren’t just different builds, they’re fundamentally incompatible epistemologies forced to cooperate for survival.

A World of Layered Complexity

The setting synthesizes aesthetic contradictions into coherent mystery. Abandoned checkpoints blend with bioluminescent wilderness. Ancient facility ruins run on power sources that predate the Cataclysm. Your enemies include professional mercenary companies with modern tactics, wilderness creatures adapted to hunt armed squads, and autonomous defense systems whose programming has degraded into something stranger than their original purpose.

Three potential clients drive the narrative, each representing a different faction’s relationship to forbidden technology:

House Argus treats ancient tech as research material for their cyber-genetic experiments—secular, ambitious, and amoral.

The Norn follow prophecies from Rune Seers, seeking artifacts to prevent fated disasters—superstitious to outsiders, devoutly certain to themselves.

House Zilant operates in Brechliant’s shadow, their motivations obscured by rumors of bankruptcy, political maneuvering, and desperate schemes.

You won’t know which faction hired you until deep into the campaign. When you finally secure the deliverable, the epilogue branches based on your choice: deliver the technology and enable that faction’s agenda, or destroy it and accept the consequences of defying powerful interests.

Character Progression Meets Narrative Continuity

Battle Role Blitz bridges the gap between one-shot tactical puzzles and persistent campaign progression through its crossplay system. Characters who complete the finale unlock for use in other Radiant Tactics adventures. Equipment earned through looting carries forward. The mercenaries you befriend (or betray) remember.

The campaign supports 1-4 players cooperatively against AI opposition, with adjustable difficulty through enemy composition and deployment options. Want a quick 15-35 minute tactical puzzle? Run a 4v4 encounter. Ready for an 80-minute strategic challenge? Scale up to 6v6 or flip the numbers to 4v6 for brutal difficulty.

Short campaign mode adds replayability: recruit defeated enemies by spending loot tokens, unlock new battle roles, and chase all three client deliverables across multiple playthroughs. Each run reshapes your roster and opens new tactical possibilities.
